Claudia Aguirre is a New York-based principal and school leader who has worked with New York City Public Schools as an executive administrator since 2020. She previously spent 5 years as the principal of Sojourner Truth School. Her past positions include leadership coach with NYC Community School District 3, Office of the Superintendent, and chief executive officer of the New York City Department of Education Office of English Language Learners. Claudia Aguirre has also worked as the principal of Dual Language Middle School, guiding the school to an A rating on the NYC Progress Reports filed between 2006 and 2013.
In her role with NYC’s District 79, Claudia Aguirre serves as the district’s multilingual and English language learners (MLL/ELL) service administrator. She has introduced a host of critical research, materials, and resources to the district in this capacity while overseeing all MLL program needs.
Claudia Aguirre holds degrees in psychology and developmental and remedial reading from Columbia University and the City University of New York, respectively. She received an NYS school administrator and supervisor certificate from the City University of New York’s School of Public Affairs and subsequently completed a principal fellowship with New Leaders for New Schools. She has completed additional professional training and education at the Leadership for Educational Achievement Foundation Future Superintendents Academy and the Bank Street College Graduate School of Education.
